Waterslide closure update (December 2025)

We want to share an update on the status of the waterslide at the Snohomish Aquatic Center.

In late 2023, a significant structural issue was identified in the concrete base supporting the waterslide. After careful evaluation, it was determined that the slide cannot be safely used in its current condition. Over the past 18 months, the district has worked closely with structural engineers, contractors, and aquatic facility experts to fully understand the issue and develop a long-term solution. This work confirmed that repairs are extensive and will require the full removal and replacement of the concrete stairway, slide tower, and a portion of the facility’s exterior glass wall. The actual slide does not need to be replaced.

At the School Board meeting on October 22, the School Board authorized the district to bid the slide tower replacement project. At its December 10 meeting, the School Board approved the construction contract to Summit Construction.

The project will require a temporary closure of the Snohomish Aquatic Center and is anticipated to be completed during the summer. A more specific timeline will be shared as the construction schedule is finalized.
