Sensory Beach
Our Sensory Beach program is geared toward children ages 6 and under with sensory sensitivities. This playtime offers a unique path to water safety, sensory exploration, and social interaction for children with sensory processing needs. By creating a calm environment where children can comfortably explore their senses in the water, it allows them to participate in a social setting at their own comfort level. By adapting the environment and approach, children can experience the many benefits of swimming in a safe and inclusive way.
What makes Sensory Beach time different:
- Limited capacity in the pool area to reduce crowding.
- Water features and noisy equipment are turned off to reduce noise and create a calmer experience.
- Staff are encouraged to use whistles only for emergencies.
Sensory Beach is held in our Recreation Pool in the zero-entry area only on Sundays from 9 a.m.- noon. Admission for children ages 6 and under is free with a paying adult (drop-in rate). Swim diapers and covers are mandatory for infants and toddlers, and all children need to be within arm's reach of an adult at all times.
If you are looking for swim lessons for your child, we also offer our Adaptive Swim Lesson Program for children with special needs.
