Lifeguard Training
Interested in becoming a lifeguard? The Snohomish Aquatic Center offers American Red Cross lifeguard training courses. The courses are designed to prevent and manage emergencies in and around the water.
Training includes:
- Water rescue techniques
- Land-based rescue skills
- CPR certification
- AED training
- First aid
- Bloodborne pathogens training
Course Schedule
Our next Lifeguard Training Course will be held:

Monday, June 15- Thursday, June 18 from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. daily
Participants need to attend all dates in order to receive certification.
Blended Learning Format
The Lifeguard Training Course uses a blended format, which includes:
- Online coursework completed at home prior to the first in-person class.
- In-person classroom instruction and in-water skills practice.
Participants must:
- Be at least 15 years old by the first day of class.
- Complete the online coursework before the first course session.
- Provide proof of online course completion.
- Attend 100% of all in-person training sessions to receive certification.

Fees
Course fee: $250 (includes $50 American Red Cross certification fee)
Course Requirements
A swimming assessment will be required on the first day of training. The assessment consists of:
- Swim 150 yds using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, immediately followed by 2 minutes of treading water using legs only, followed immediately by a 50-yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke
- Swim 20 yards, dive no less than 10 feet, and retrieve an object weighing 10 pounds. Return to the starting point keeping both hands on the object, and the face out of the water. Remove the object, and then exit the pool without using stairs or a ladder
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive American Red Cross certifications in:
- Lifeguarding
- CPR
- First Aid
- AED
- Bloodborne Pathogens
